June 11, 2009

Hello, El Camino Real fans,

I would like to personally thank all of you for your generous support and dedication in helping make the 2008-2009 school year very successful. Below is a quick recap of our events and a few of the areas where your monies were used.

Friends of ECR started the year in August by offering the students and staff an awesome selection of new ECR spirit merchandise and apparel during registration days. The items were very well received! During the month of September, we had our first annual ECR pledge drive which surpassed all of the hopes and goals that had been set. Continuing throughout the fall, the hard-working volunteers ran the snack shacks for all of the home football games where the crowds really loved the food and drink. Finally, in May, Friends of ECR hosted the very first “Sip the Night Away” wine tasting event at the Calabasas Swim & Tennis Club. The evening offered great wine, food and auctions. As the evening came to a close, another $10,000.00 had been raised for the El Camino students.

  • Friends of ECR purchased $5,000.00 worth of new Mac computers for a brand new program at the school, and yesterday it was announced that an ECR student using one of those computers won a $5,000.00 prize from Board Member Galatzan.
  • Friends of ECR assisted the Robotics team with $2,000.00, and they won the World Championships in May.
  • Friends of ECR purchased an extremely powerful Duplo photocopy system that supplies copies for the entire school.
  • Friends of ECR purchased over 100 printers for classroom use.
  • Friends of ECR introduced a new senior award named the Aaron Yusem Award, presented to an ECR senior who achieves the greatest increase in GPA from 9th grade to the point of graduation.

I hope all of you have a safe and relaxing summer, and I look forward to working with all of you, as well as welcoming many new parents to the Friends group. Together, we will celebrate ECR’s 40th anniversary!
